Howzit! So last week I showed y’all my initial start of a Moment of Creation deck, inspired primarily for its decrease down to 7 power instead of 8.  Before I get into this week’s deck I want to do a slight diversion.  Many of my articles are barebones and lack depth, but that’s by design. I’m more of a person who wants to give you the most information in the most succinct way possible. I could write more about the games that we played or card decisions but I purposefully put those discussions into the videos so these articles don’t become incomprehensible blocks of text.

But that aside, the other direction I thought about taking a Moment of Creation deck into was to add Primal instead of Justice. Adding Primal gives us access to effects like Mortar but more importantly allows us to add some other “spells matter” cards such as Calderan Cradle. So let’s see where I ended up!

Moment of Primal Creation:

2 Excavate (Set1 #71)
3 Permafrost (Set1 #193)
4 Seek Power (Set1 #408)
4 Torch (Set1 #8)
3 Backlash (Set1 #200)
2 Find the Way (Set1 #513)
2 Kaleb’s Choice (Set2 #188)
4 Lightning Storm (Set1 #206)
4 Purify (Set2 #176)
2 Secret Pages (Set1 #81)
4 Wisdom of the Elders (Set1 #218)
4 Calderan Cradle (Set2 #192)
2 Mortar (Set2 #194)
2 Rain of Frogs (Set1 #221)
1 Crystallize (Set1 #232)
2 Obliterate (Set1 #48)
1 Celestial Omen (Set1 #241)
2 Moment of Creation (Set2 #185)
2 Channel the Tempest (Set1 #244)
4 Fire Sigil (Set1 #1)
3 Time Sigil (Set1 #63)
6 Primal Sigil (Set1 #187)
4 Seat of Impulse (Set0 #54)
4 Seat of Wisdom (Set0 #63)
4 Seat of Fury (Set0 #53)

Thanks to adding Primal instead of Justice we can remove the Assembly Line in favor of more focused removal.  Granted losing Harsh Rule is a big downside, but the extra card draw should make us slightly more consistent. Plus Celestial Omen is a great card here to be extra copies of Crystallize or Moment of Creation.  You’ll also see the favored control win-con of Channel the Tempest, but it’s here more to draw cards than finish the opponent.

So as we saw the deck has some legs, but obviously has weak matchups. It could just be that Moment of Creation isn’t viable for a consistent strategy, but if you’re looking to fool around in Casual or Masters try taking these decks for a spin! Next week I’ll kick off by breaking down this excursion looking at Moment of Creation, and I’ll play something a bit more expected.

As always you can give me comments/questions on Reddit, the Discord, or Twitter @jwiley129.  Thanks so much for following along and I’ll see y’all next time!
