Welcome to another Modern Monday!
As you know, with our new format we’ll be streaming this week’s matches live on my Twitch channel at around 2 pm PDT (so be sure to follow or subscribe to know when we go live).
If you happen to miss those or otherwise aren’t available for that, worry not! They’ll be posted here tomorrow morning to watch in their full glory along with a write up of the deck!
A week or two ago, Jim Davis posted a decklist on Twitter that he was completing some kind of Modern challenge with. The challenge? Building a Modern deck with four Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. While Jim did manage to go 4-1 with the deck, he still jokingly referred to it as a pile in a Facebook post. I disagreed and posed the question, “At what point is a pile an actual deck? I ask this a lot based on the fact that people rarely try new things in Modern.” Needless to say I saw something in the deck, and still do!
Check it out, although I must admit I made one change to the main deck (adding one more Dismember and removing one Doom Blade) and four changes to the sideboard (removing one Pithing Needle and three Bitterblossom, and adding one Liliana of the Veil, one Damnation, one Dispel, and one Negate). Otherwise, though, the spirit of the list in intact.

I already played a match with the deck and…it wasn’t very close. For our opponent that is. It turns out that not only is Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver an amazing card and win condition on its own, it’s also amazing at giving us cards to process for our Eldrazi. The deck actually ran extremely well, so we’re hoping for more of the same today! Fingers crossed.
Like I said, the matches themselves will be livestreamed on my Twitch channel or in the window below. If you miss them, make sure to check back tomorrow for an article with my analysis of the deck and the videos that you can watch at your convenience!
Thanks for reading and enjoy the show!
